The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the pre-eminent men's professional basketball league in North America. The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL).

The NBA is comprised of 30 teams. These teams are divided into two conferences (East and West) and each are 3 divisions. In the regular season each team plays 82 games, split evenly between home and away matches. The calendar is not the same for everyone. The teams are faced with opponents of his own division four times; to those of the other two divisions of the conference among three or four times; and against the other conference twice a year.

The classification of the 30 NBA teams, divided into the Eastern Conference and Western Conference, which is the way in which the positions of each squad for rounds for the title are defined. The top eight teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs play.
